There are many different types of rust stains that plague Kansas. It is important to correctly identify what the source is. After that we can safely and effectively eliminate this eyesore at your home or business. Some of the different rust stains are:
Fertilizer Rust Stains
Fertilizer Rust Stains are caused when fertilizer pellets are applied to a yard then not swept or blown away. When they become wet the iron in the pellets leaches out into the surface, causing small rust spots all over.
Irrigation Rust Stains
Irrigation Rust Stains are caused by excessive amounts of iron in well water. Wherever the water lands coming out of the irrigation system, the surface will start turning orange and get darker and darker the longer left untreated. It is recommended before cleaning this type of staining the property owner has a new well dug deeper, or a system installed that removes the iron in the water. If not the staining will keep coming back.
Battery Acid Rust Stains
Battery Acid Rust Stains are typically caused by vehicle or golf cart batteries that are leaking or are being rinsed off. The issue with battery acid is it will stay active for many years. Each time it gets wet the effected area will grow larger. This is why often times it looks like it is running down a driveway, and it is even able to eat through a 6” slab of concrete. Battery acid stains are also dangerous, it is 31-50% sulfuric acid in concentration. It is toxic, corrosive, and carcinogenic. Before removing this stain we always neutralize the effected area. This keeps it from growing larger and makes the area safe.
Metallic Rust Stains
Metallic Rust Stains can be caused by metal dumpsters, metal furniture, metal railing, etc coming into direct contact with the surface for an extended period of time. As the bottom of the metal develops rust it will embed itself into the concrete or brick surface.
Surface Therapy is equipped with the expertise, equipment, and techniques to remove these types of rust stains off many surfaces including concrete, brick, pavers, tile, stone, concrete coatings, asphalt, vinyl and aluminum siding and many other surfaces.
